Kolkata: Five people are reported to have died in the fire at Stephen's Court on the busy Park Street in Kolkata on Tuesday afternoon. Twenty people have been rescued, police have said.
"Fire is under control now, flames have been put out. Only embers remain now. Four people are feared killed, 17-18 have been injured and 7-8 people have been hospitalised," said Joint Commissioner of Police Javed Shamim.
Fire personnel are still in the building, carrying out room to room searches. Kolkata police's disaster management team is also in the building, he added.
Shamim had earlier told NDTV that one person had jumped from the building and people were trapped on the fifth and sixth floor.
