Kolkata:
A student of Class XII of a Kolkata school tried to commit suicide in school and left a note blaming his Hindi teacher for forcing him to take the drastic step. The teacher has been arrested and released on bail since. She had apparently repeatedly humiliated him in class, prompting him to take an overdose of sleeping pills in school.
Mohammed Sajjir Khan is recovering from an overdose of sleeping pills. He took four of the pills at school on Monday apparently after repeated humiliation in class by his Hindi teacher. He even wrote a note in his diary saying so.
"My teacher Nabanita Nag was always humiliating me in class and insulting my parents also," said Sajjar Khan, student.
"My son said if he had done something wrong and the teacher scolded him, he'd understand. But she kept harassing him on minor matters," said Shamshad Khan, mother.
Friends and family rushed Sajjar to hospital. But school authorities denied any knowledge of the incident.
"No such thing happened in school. Any one can go and file a police complaint but nothing happed to my knowledge," said SK Singh, Principal, St Helen's School.
But after an uproar by fellow students at school on Tuesday the police stepped in and arrested Nabanita Nag. She is now out on bail. But Sajjir and his family and friends hope the message to teachers has been driven home.
