Bangalore: A Std X student in Bangalore was forced to do 200 sit ups and beaten up for coming to school 15 minutes late.
Nayeen Pasha, who is now unable to walk, has been admitted to the hospital and his parents are running from pillar to post to arrange money for his treatment.
The incident occurred on August 11 when Pasha reached Rani Chennamma Memorial Trust High school at 8.25 am, 15 minutes late.
Pasha was made to stand outside the gate and was later summoned by the teacher who made him do 200 sit-ups as a punishment for coming late.
Pasha managed to complete it with great difficulty and when he could not walk because of exhaustion, the teacher belted him mercilessly, alleging that he was making an excuse.
At home, the boy complained of leg pains without telling his parents what had really happened.
When his condition worsened, his parents rushed him to Agadi hospital where the doctor after examination referred him to Nimhans for further treatment.
Upon questioning by the doctors, Pasha narrated the incident. "Due to the excessive exercise, his nerves are cramped," a doctor said.
Pasha's father, who works for a printing press has filed a complaint with the SR Nagar police.
"It is sad that the teacher has subjected the student to such a harsh punishment despite strict guidelines from the education department," said SR Nagar Inspector L Ramesh, adding that even wrestlers can't do 200 squats.
"I have filed a case against the teacher and secretary of the school for indulging in corporal punishment, he said adding that he has summoned the accused to appear before him.
