Lawyer arrested for raping client

Pune: The Pimpri police arrested a lawyer on Thursday for allegedly raping a woman on promise of getting her husband out from prison on parole. The accused has been identified as Sajid Sallauddin Sayyad (32) of Pimprigaon.

According to the police, the victim's husband is serving life imprisonment since 2008 in a murder case. After one month of the verdict, the victim had appealed to the court to grant her husband bail and approached Sajid to get the bail order.

Sajid demanded Rs 15,000 to get the bail order and she gave the amount to him. On May 7 this year, Sajid took the victim to a lodge in Khadakwasla and allegedly raped her.

He also threatened her with dire consequences if she narrated the incident to anyone.

Her husband was released on parole on November 3. However, Sajid continued to call her on cellphone. Fed up with the harassment, she lodged a complaint against him at the Pimpri police station.
