Leapord kills boy in Maharashtra town

Nashik: A two-and-a-half-year old boy was killed in a leopard attack in a village in Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra today, forest officials said.

According to the officials Yash Khatal was playing near his house in Dhandharphal Khurd village in Sangamner taluka on Friday morning when the leopard attacked the child and dragged him away. His body was later found with multiple injuries in a sugarcane field in the village.

When the wild animal attacked Yash, his mother started shouting for help. However, by the time anybody could trace the boy, he was dead, said one of the villager.

Forest officials, who rushed to the spot announced financial assistance of Rs two lakh to the relatives of the victim.

The incident has created panic among villagers who have asked the Forest Department to trap the big cat immediately.
