Leopard killed by villagers in Gujarat district

Vadodara: A leopard was killed by locals in Tirth village of Banaskantha district in Gujarat after it strayed into a residential area,  police said.

The incident took place in Vav taluka on Sunday when villagers stoned the wild animal to death after it was found hiding in a field behind the school there, they said.

Banaskantha District Collector R J Patel and the district Magistrate has ordered an inquiry into the killing of the endangered species.

Even as forest department officials were trying to cage the wild cat the panic villagers killed it, Patel said

According to villagers, nine persons including a guard had been attacked by the leopard, which has been lurking in open fields creating fear in locals.
