Dehradun:
Indian Military Academy, a premier defence institute of the country, is facing a new challenge of keeping leopards at bay after two wild cats were seen wandering in the area around the institution, a senior official said here on Wednesday.
The Public Information Officer of the institute Major Amit Dagar said the leopards were seen wandering the northern part of the institute.
This incident has come into the light after a straying leopard was caught in the first week of January this year from the premises of the institute, which was later handed over to the forest department, he said.
The IMA has appealed the forest department to do the needful to prevent straying leopards from entering the institute, which could put the lives of students here in danger, he said.
Incidents of leopards straying into the urban areas of Dehradun have become frequent.
District forest official of Dehradun Minakshi Joshi said that due to recurring leopard sightings in the IMA campus, the Forest Department has placed a cage in the premises.
