Lovers steal Rs 20 lakh for dream home, nabbed

Mumbai: A 17-year-old girl and her boy friend wanted to have their own home before their marriage for which the girl had allegedly stolen Rs 20 lakh in cash from neighbour hotelier's residence in central Mumbai but the duo ran out of luck and were arrested and put behind bars on Friday.

The girl, who is the daughter of a well-known hotelier in the city, and her lover Hrishikesh Shetye (23) were nabbed today and cash of Rs 18.10 lakh recovered from them and Rs 49,000 bank deposits were seized, said Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) Deven Bharti.

According to police, Hemant Shedye, a hotelier and resident of Sewree area in central Mumbai, had on April 19 complained at R A K Marg police station stating that Rs 20 lakh in cash was stolen from his cupboard at his rented house.

Shedye accumulated the Rs 20 lakh to buy a big house after selling his family owned house and from his savings, police said.

When Shedye and his family went out on April 18, the cash was stolen from his house. The next day, a complaint was registered by him at the police station, they added.

During the probe it was revealed that, the girl and Hrishikesh, a resident of Kalachowki area, were roaming around for over 10 months and on several occasions Hrishikesh used to tell his lover that he wanted to buy a posh house before their marriage, police said.
