Lucknow: A number of Samajwadi Party (SP) workers were today injured in police lathicharge when they broke barricades and marched towards Rajbhawan to protest fuel price hike here during Bharat Bandh.
The SP workers broke barricades put by the police near the party headquarter and tried to forcibly march ahead leading to lathicharge by police injuring a number of party workers.
In a bid to prevent the workers to march ahead, the police also used water cannons at them.
The party workers later resorted to brick batting at the police personnel.
Senior party leaders, including Ahmad Hasan and Bhagwati Singh, however, reached near Rajbhawan, from where they were arrested.
Later, protesting the lathicharge on party workers, SP leaders Shivpal Yadav and party state president Akhilesh Yadav sat on a dharna near party office.
