Madurai: About 74 sovereigns of gold ornaments and five kg of silver articles worth about Rs 7.05 lakh, were stolen from the residence of a city doctor, police said today.
They said the doctor and his family, staying at Sampakulam in Vivekanandanagar area had left for temples outside the city a few days back. When they returned this morning, they found the front door broken open and the ornaments kept in a steel alrmirah missing.
The doctor then lodged a complaint with police, who pressed sniffer dogs into service.
