Jodhpur:
A major fire broke out at a Grid sub-station in Jodhpur on Monday morning damaging a large section and leaving a fireman injured.
14 fire tenders, including three from army, battled the blaze for over two hours but by the time it was doused one transformer was completely damaged at the station which was made operational in 2004, officials said, There was no loss of life though a fireman suffered burn injuries, a fire brigade officer said, adding he was rushed to the hospital.
The exact cause of fire is not yet known but officials said there could be "some internal fault".
According to the Superintending Engineer of the Rajasthan State Power Transmission Corporation M C Purohit, the total loss has been estimated to be over Rs 3 crore and it will take 2-3 months to rebuild the station and install the transformer.
He claimed there was no disruption of power supply to the city.
"There were two transformers at this station, of which one was gutted completely whereas we succeeded in saving the other one", said Mr Purohit.
He said that despite this, "we maintained the power supply in the city without any interruption as the transmission of power was shifted to other resources.
"We have additional resource availability at the station, which was put to use instantly to avoid any power cut", he said.
