Malaria claims two more in Mumbai
Mumbai: Two persons died due to malaria in the metropolis taking the toll due to the disease to eight since August 1.

A 30-year-old man, a resident of Goregaon, died due to malaria last night at a civic hospital. Another 55-year-old woman, a resident of Malad, also died to the disease, health officials said.

Altogether 230 persons are admitted for malaria treatment today at various hospitals in the city. 1,230 persons have been admitted due to the disease since this August.  However, the civic body claimed that there is a decline in cases of malaria.

"There has been a decline in malaria cases in the past few days and we are hopeful that within next seven to ten days the cases will come down more further," Municipal Commissioner Swadhin Kshatriya told reporters here.

"The number of malaria cases at the three major civic hospitals  Nair, Sion and KEM, increased since July 21 when 202 cases were reported. The situation worsened further as on July 27, 306 persons were admitted due to the disease but yesterday only 81 cases were reported," Dean of KEM Hospital, Dr Sanjay Oak, said.

Oak said the situation was so bad that we had decided to set up temporary shades at KEM hospital to treat patients as there was not enough place to accommodate patients in the hospital. "Now as the situation has improved we have dropped the idea," he said.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man, a resident of VidhyaVihar, died due to Dengue yesterday, health officials said.
