Pune: Vishal Jadhav (35), a sociology professor who was assaulted at the State Bank of India (SBI) on East Street on Monday, is irked that he has not received even a call from the bank enquiring about his health.
At 9.15 pm on Monday, an unidentified person had lashed out at him with a knife at the SBI ATM. The injured professor required 17 stitches on his face, hand, back and lower back.
Recounting the incident, Jadhav said he was at the ATM with his wife Rinky's card to withdraw some money when the incident happened. "Imagine, if my wife had gone to the ATM with our daughter Anushka!" said Jadhav.
Jadhav is upset with the bank, as it had not installed proper security measures outside the ATM. He was later informed that there was no guard present, the CCTV camera installed was not functioning properly and the images captured by the camera were too hazy.
Senior Police Inspector Balkrishna Shinde said, "If the camera was working, we would have nabbed the assailant easily. We have requested all banks in our jurisdiction to increase security measures, but they have not taken it seriously." Jadhav being continuously stabbed by the assailant has led the police to believe that the attacker was an addict. Jadhav has identified his attacker to be 5.3 feet in height and muscular in stature.
