Man breaks into Rs 1 cr Mumbai flat, claims ownership
Mumbai: Rizwan Thakur, who had earlier claimed ownership of a flat in New Natraj Housing Society in Chembur, tried to again stake his claim in the early hours of Tuesday morning when he broke into the flat.

But all he got was a police complaint registered against him by the society residents.

Thakur alleged that he bought the flat from its deceased resident, Ghanshyam Rangnekar, but the society has refused to hand it over to him due to the invalidity of the document that he produced.

At 3 am on Tuesday, Thakur assaulted the watchman and entered the building. He then used gas welders to cut open the grills on the apartment door that had been installed by the society to prevent trespassers.

The residents have lodged a complaint at the Tilak Nagar Police Station. "This is the second time that Thakur has tried to break into the flat," said Sunil Kunte, treasurer of the society.

"We had earlier instructed him to produce the legal documents stating his ownership but only provide some documents which seemed forged," he added.

The flat belonged to Manik Rangnekar who passed away five years ago. Her brother Ghanshyam Rangnekar then used it until he too passed away in January this year. Since they were both unmarried, there were no legal heirs to the property.

C H Devraj, secretary of the society, said, "We had no idea that the flat had been sold and that too for just 11 lakh, which is unbelievable.

Rangnekar never mentioned about the sale of the flat. If a relative of the deceased owners can claim ownership to the property by giving a successor's copy produced by the court, then Thakur can purchase the flat from that person."

Four people claiming to be Rangnekar's relatives have applied for the successor's copy and the ownership of the flat that is estimated to be worth more than Rs 1 crore.

PSI Vijay Kadam at the Tilak Nagar Police Station said, "It was a civil court matter until Thakur broke open the door. We have booked him under Section 456 (trespassing) of IPC."
