Kollam, Kerala: A 44-year old man allegedly chopped off his wife's left hand during a quarrel with her and flung it into the neighbour's compound at a remote village in the district.

Police said Hashim, a meat and fish seller, allegedly attacked 31-yr-old Nasia using a butcher's knife at Edamon, about 40 km from Kollam.

He has been absconding since then.

The villagers recovered the severed organ and rushed the victim to the taluk hospital at Punalur town where it was grafted with the arm.

Doctors attending on the woman said it would take some time to know if the operation was successful.
