Bareilly: An unemployed 25-year-old man has died in police custody in Kotwali police station in Bareilly after which three policemen, including the Station House Officer, were placed under suspension and a case lodged against them.
On Friday, Deepak Yadav was picked up by the Bareilly police and brought to the police station for questioning in a chain snatching case.
The same night Deepak's parents received a phone call from the police station that he was critical and had been rushed to the district hospital.
He was declared brought dead by the doctors.
Although there are no external injuries on Deepak's body, the police have now registered a case of murder against Inspector Virender Kumar and Constables Mukesh Giri and Room Singh.
The investigation into the death has now been handed over to the state CID and a magisterial probe ordered.
His post-mortem will be conducted by a panel of three doctors and the entire process filmed.
Today Deepak's relatives and Samajwadi Party workers protested outside the police station and demanded action against the policemen.
