Indore: A 24-year-old man died of swine flu in Indore, taking the death toll due to the viral infection this year to nine, official sources said on Monday.
The man, who succumbed to H1N1 virus on the intervening night of March 9 and 10 at his home, was admitted to a private hospital on March 7, district health and nodal officer for seasonal diseases Dr G L Sodhi said.
The deceased, from Gaurinagar area of Indore, left hospital on March 9 in a critical state against the medical advice even as his swab sample had been sent for testing to Jabalpur laboratory, Sodhi said.
As the district authorities approached the man at his residence on Sunday to inform him that he had tested positive for swine flu, his parents told them that he had succumbed to the viral infection on the intervening night of March 9-10.
Apart from the nine people succumbing to swine flu this season (from January till date), eight H1N1 infected patients were being treated at various hospitals in the city, Sodhi said adding seven of them were critical.
