Man dies of suspected anthrax

Berhampur, Orissa: One person from Kandhamal district who was undergoing treatment for suspected Anthrax, died at a hospital here, official sources said on Sunday.

The deceased identified as Ruruka Majhi (40) of Bada Guchhuka village in Kandhamal died at the MKCG Medical College Hospital in Berhampur on Saturday night, Kandhamal CDMO N C Behera said.

While Majhi along with six others were admitted in the hospital last week after suffering from suspected anthrax, eight persons, including a four-year-old girl were admitted to the hospital in the second phase.

All the 14 patients belonged to San Guchhuka and Bada Guchhuka villages of Tumudibandh block, he said.

While two of them were completely cured, the condition of others is improving", the CDMO said.

Besides the two villages, the disease had not spread to other places following precautionary measures to contain its spread, Behera added.
