Kottayam:
A 73-year-old man was today sentenced to life imprisonment by a court for murdering his son in 2005. Additional Sessions Judge B Shankaran Unni held Mathew guilty of murdering his son Abraham (41) and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.
The prosecution case was that Mathew and Abraham used to quarrel frequently over the latter borrowing some money from a home nurse. After a quarrel on September 25, 2005, the old man, under the influence of liquor, stabbed his son using a kitchen knife.
Abraham's mother, his 10-year-old daughter and her tuition master deposed as prosecution witness.
The Judge ordered Mathew to undergo a further period of one year imprisonment in case of default in paying the fine.
