A man hacked his wife to death after a quarrel at Gerethang Tinziring basti in West Sikkim district, police said today.
33-year-old Ram Basnet hacked his 31-year-old wife Tara Basnet after a domestic quarrel last night and fled, the sources said.
The body of Tara lying in a pool of blood was found by their children. They then told their neighbours, who informed the police.
The police recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy at Gyalshing Hospital today. The police registered the case under Section 302 of IPC at Gyalshing police station and an investigation has begun.
Upon hearing this incident, Chief Minister Pawan Kumar Chamling, who is on a tour in the constituency, announced that he would sponsor the education of the three children of the couple.
