Man killed over Rs 500 in Mumbai

Mumbai: If only he hadn't borrowed money for a drink, he would have been alive.

An employee of a catering firm, A Tambi, was allegedly killed by his friend and co-worker, Vinod Shinde, in Mumbai. "Tambi was killed for a mere Rs 500," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XII) Satyanarayan Choudhary.

Shinde and two of his accomplices were arrested after a massive manhunt on Sunday after he confessed to the killing.

Over the last three days, more than 50 persons employed with the catering company, and locals in the area where Tambi's body was found were interrogated.

"Shinde said Tambi had borrowed Rs 500 for a drink in a bar a fortnight ago. He was not ready to repay the amount despite being repeatedly told to do so," said Choudhary.

Shinde was joined by his friends, Dattaram Kamble and his wife Geeta. The trio allegedly assaulted Tambi with bamboos and fled on seeing Tambi bleeding profusely.

Tambi, who sustained severe injuries to the head, died a few hours after he was admitted to Bhagwati Hospital in Borivli (West).
