Madurai:
A man has moved the Madras High Court bench here seeking a direction and police protection to exhume the body of his daughter-in-law which was allegedly buried in his house by her relatives after she was murdered last month.
V Raphael of Mullanghinavilai in Kanyakumari District said his youngest son Sasikumar was arrested recently in connection with the murder of his eldest son's wife Kavitha.
Raphael alleged when he and his wife had gone to the police station for an inquiry, Kavitha's relatives, taking advantage of their absence, went to his house and buried her body in the hall.
He also accused Kavitha's relatives of damaging valuables, stealing gold jewellery from his house.
This violates the Tamil Nadu Village Panchayat Provision of Burial and Burning Grounds Rules which prohibit burying or burning of a corpse within 90 metres from a dwelling house.
"I and my wife have no place to live. The atrocious act of burying a dead body in my house is a barbarous one. I have made representations about the awful act to the respondents (Collector, Revenue Divisional Officer and Superintendent of Police) but they have not taken any step to remove the body," he submitted.
Justice K K Sasidharan, who was hearing the petition, has ordered issue of a notice to the police and posted the case to January 11.
