Hyderabad:
A local court today sentenced a man to three years of imprisonment for duping a woman to the tune of over Rs 5 lakh by making false promises of marriage.
The convict, Gaddam Chandrasekhar was sentenced to three years of simple imprisonment for cheating a woman from a minority community. Second Metropolitan Magistrate L B Nagar awarded the sentence, a CID official said in Hyderabad today.
According to prosecution, the man had asked for Rs 5 lakh dowry from the woman under the pretext of marrying her, but did not tie the knot with her. He had told the woman that he was in love with her.
Later, based on a complaint given by the victim, the Women Protection Cell (WPC) of CID filed a charge sheet in the court following the investigation.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Chadrasekhar.
