A 50-year-old man in Thane allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself and purportedly filmed the act on his mobile phone on December 22.
The police said the victim, Babu Sheikh, also recorded a suicide note wherein he blamed his daughter-in-law and her family for taking the extreme step. Sheikh claimed that his daughter-in-law, her father and brother had defamed him.
Sheikh lived with his family at Bhaskar Nagar in Thane's Ambernath Township. His son got married last month and there used to be frequent arguments between the family and the daughter-in-law.
According to Press Trust of India, Sheikh learned how to record videos on his mobile phone from his son. They next morning, his family members tried to wake him up but there was no response from the room. They broke the door open and found the 50-year-old hanging from the ceiling.
A police complaint has been registered by Sheikh's younger son and the daughter-in-law, her father and brother have been charged with abetment of suicide. No arrest has been made so far, according to the news agency.
