Salem : Angry at his marriage proposal being rejected, a 26-year-old man set an 18-year-old girl, her brother and mother on fire before setting himself ablaze, police said on Friday.
While the man died on the spot, the girl with 90 per cent burns succumbed in hospital today, while the other two are undergoing treatment, police said.
The man, an auto-mechanic, had known the family for the last two years. He had got married three months ago but left the woman as he wanted to get married to the 18-year-old college girl, police said.
On January 26, he arrived at the girl's house and expressed his desire to marry her. As the girl refused, he splashed kerosene on his body, the girl, her mother and brother and lit a match, police added.
The girl's father, a brick klin worker, was not at home at the time.
