Man trapped in Rajasthan tunnel since Thursday rescued
Udaipur: Much like the story of the Chile miners, though on a smaller scale, Narayan who was trapped in a tunnel that caved in while he was at work 40 km from Udaipur, for six days has finally been rescued.

Narayan was working as a pump operator for Costal India limited. He was helping dig a tunnel for the Dewas water project, meant to steam water via a special pipeline to the lakes in Udaipur city.

When the tunnel caved in on Thursday afternoon, Narayan was inside, approximately 300 ft below the ground.

A 22 metre tunnel had to be dug to bring Narayan out. By Tuesday evening, authorities had managed around half the distance. Luckily for him, while both ends were blocked and there was no way out, he had 9 metres of free space inside to walk around in.

Narayan was in communication with the authorities who lowered a pipe into the tunnel from which they communicated with him. They also supplied him with food and water, dry fruits and juice.

Narayan was hired recently in the job and officials say they do not have even a photograph of him. He is believed to be 40-years-old and a resident of Himachal Pradesh who had been given the job at the work site by a labour contractor.
