Mangalore:
Mangalore-resident Capt Glen Aroza reached home on Monday, after languishing 17 months in a Taiwan prison. Aroza was placed under arrest after the Panama-flagged ship, MV Tosa, he had been commandeering, allegedly collided with Shingtong Cheng 86, a Taiwanese fishing trawler, killing two persons.
Besides the captain, a second officer from Bangladesh and a seaman from the Philippines were also arrested by the coastal police of that country on April 17, 2009.
It was also reported that MV Tosa had not collided with the trawler, but the boat capsized in the wake of the bigger vessel.
Following the accident, the Taiwanese marine police escorted MV Tosa to the port of Hua Lien.
Aroza reached Mangalore by a Jet Airways flight from Mumbai, and immediately left for his house in Bendoor. His family members, who received him at the airport, said he would speak to the media after the high court of Taiwan dropped all charges slapped on him.
