Mangalore:
City based amateur kite flying team 'Team Mangalore' has been invited to participate in the International kite festival in Dieppe, France.
The team has been invited by Mayor of Dieppe, Sebastian Jumail, to take part in the festival as guest participants from India, 'Team Mangalore' founder Sarvesha Rao said today.
The event is to be held from September 6 to 14, "This is an honour to all the Mangaloreans and the people of our country because it is for the first time in the history of the kite festivals across the world that this honour has been given to any team of our country," Mr Rao said in a release.
The special creations of the team for the 18th international kite festival are 'Vibhishana' and 'Sangama' made exclusively for the festival.
Vibhishana, Ravana's brother, has been jointly designed by Sarvesha Rao, Dinesh Holla, Satish Rao, and Pranesh, it said.
The special kite designed by the team is 30 foot in height and nine feet wide. 'Sangama' the other kite to be displayed at the event is a hexagon shaped kite with a height of nine feet and width of five feet.
An exhibition of line drawings of artist Dinesh Holla will also be held.
The team also plans to showcase the rich tradition of Mangalore through telefilms every evening during the festival.
