Mercedes thief takes sales staff for Rs 52 lakh ride

Bangalore: A 35-year-old man entered the showroom of Sundaram Motors on the busy Kasturba Road in Bangalore and made off with a Mercedes Benz worth over Rs 52 lakh.

The incident took place around 5.15 pm on Saturday when M A Subbaiah, a sales executive, noticed a man wandering inside the showroom  on the pretext of checking cars. Subbaiah got suspicious and approached the man who, on seeing Subbaiah coming towards him, got into one of the cars and zoomed away.

Subbaiah alerted the security guards but they failed to stop him. Subbaiah gave chase and even alerted the traffic cops manning the junction, but in vain. The cops immediately alerted the traffic control room but the culprit couldn't be traced.

It's been three days and the cops haven't been able to locate the car or catch those involved in the heist despite a  complaint being filed with the Cubbon Park police.

According to the cops, the showroom had CCTV cameras installed but the images aren't of any help. "We are leaving no stone unturned to track the vehicle. However, it will be difficult for us to recover the car once the culprit crosses the state border," said an officer.
