Minor girl in Delhi drugged, forcibly married

Delhi: A 35-year-old Karamveer man in Delhi forcibly married a 16-year-old girl, a colleague at work.

The girl was allegedly served food laced with sedatives when she had gone to visit a co-worker. The victim has now been rescued and Karamveer and a co-conspirator are in police custody.

The girl joined a TV switch factory 25 days before the incident. On the day of the incident, she left for work at the usual time but didn't return home.

"My daughter is just 16. What will happen to her future? She had left the house at the usual time. When she did not return till evening, we started searching for her. We asked about her everywhere. We even went to her workplace, though we had never been there. We spoke to a woman named Usha. At the time we did not know she was Karamveer's main accomplice. I was unconscious for two days after her disappearance. My husband and relatives were searching for her tirelessly," said the girl's mother.

After two months, the girl's younger sister received a call from her. The victim couldn't say much over the phone. She just mentioned an address in Gurgaon where she was probably at.

"When my sister called, her voice was shaking. I could hear Karamveer's nephew prompting her from the other side. He told me to bring my parents along. He also said that Karamveer and my sister were married and so, we were only allowed to meet her. But while going to Gurgaon, we took the police personnel along, and the culprits were arrested on the spot," said Aarti, Seema's sister.

The girl was allegedly found with bruises on her body. She was unable to speak properly and was stammering and appeared physically weak.

"Karamveer had paid an accomplice Rs 40,000 to make the victim unconscious. We have arrested them. Both have confessed to their crime," said a police official.
