Shillong: A photojournalist who had taken a picture of a Congress MLA dozing off during the Assembly session last week was today allegedly assaulted by the legislator inside the House.
Walton Lytan, was assaulted within the Assembly premises by Founder Strong Cajee after Chief Minister Mukul Sangma delivered his budget speech.
A photograph taken by Lytan which shows the Mawlai MLA taking a nap had appeared in a couple of local newspapers.
Terming the incident as "unfortunate", Leader of Opposition Conrad K Sangma said, "It is unbecoming of an elected representative to behave in this manner and that too within the premises of the Assembly".
"We will be taking up this matter and ensure that the Speaker takes action against the erring legislator," he said.
An FIR has been lodged in the matter and the Opposition has assured Lytan that the matter will be raised on the floor of the House on Tuesday.
