Nainital: The mobile phone may have made lives easier for many but for two village women here, the
gadget actually turned out to be their life saver.
The two women had on Wednesday climbed a tree to cut fodder foliage near village Taida in Ramnagar forest division, 70 kms from here. Meanwhile, a tiger appeared from nearby bushes and sat under the same tree, apparently waiting for them to climb down, according to the forest department.
Fear-struck though, one of the women who were carrying a mobile phone quietly informed her family members. Their family approached the nearest forest unit, which promptly reached the spot. The tiger escaped as soon as the forest team fired air shots, and the women were rescued.
The entire incident took more than two hours and women stayed on the tree for that duration, said forest officials.
The forest where the incident happened is adjacent to Corbett National Park.
