Another woman was injured in the incident and she has been admitted to hospital
A 52-year-old woman died of heart attack during a stampede at a blanket distribution programme in Badaun, Uttar Pradesh. The programme was organised by the local unit of the Samajwadi Party to celebrate its chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's 75th birthday.
Sharbati Devi was rushed to the community health centre after the incident at Madanlal Inter College where doctors declared her dead, Assistant Superintendent of Police Balendra Bhushan Singh said. "She died because of heart attack and not because of stampede," Mr Singh added.
He said another woman was injured in the incident and she has been admitted to hospital.
Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav was present at the blanket distribution programme but left before the stampede took place.
