Mumbai:
A case of accidental death has turned out to be a murder case post the Mumbai Crime Branch's investigation. The crime branch found out that in June this year, the deceased was actually robbed and thrown on the highway, after which he was run over by a speeding vehicle, resulting in his death. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the case.
The accused have been identified as Mohammad Qaiz Mohammad Muslim, 20, resident of Ghatkopar (W), and Mohammad Naushad Khan, 21, resident of Mumbra. According to joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy, "Injuries on Rajendra Govind Lavand's body suggested that the person was hit by a speeding vehicle," said Roy.
He added that ornaments, two mobile phones and some cash were missing from his person. One phone was sold by Qaiz and Khan, who were apprehended on Wednesday.
During interrogation, they said they met a drunk Lavand at Vikhroli (E), took him to an isolated place, robbed his belongings and left him near the highway. Lavand, who could barely stand by then, was hit by a speeding vehicle, and succumbed to his injuries.
