Mumbai: While the police stations in the city are reeling under various problems pertaining to rate of crime and detection, the Panvel police have added a feather to its cap.
It has become the first police station in the commissionerate to go hi-tech with computerisation and Local Area Network (LAN). The entire work in the police station, except lodging FIRs, has gone hi- tech with eight new computers installed in the police station in the cabin of senior police inspector besides accounts, administration departments and crime detection wing. In all eight computers have been installed in the police station which have been inter-connected via LAN. The staff at the police station, including the writers of the senior officials has undergone a special training to operate the computers and use them in day-to-day functioning.
Similarly, wage bills, salary slips, progress and status of crime detection in the jurisdiction of the police station is currently being computerised. "The jurisdiction of the police station is spread over old and new Panvel including few villages in the surrounding area. With rapid urbanisation and ever increasing population, day-to-day policing has become crucial to maintain the rule of law in the area," Bhosale said. The responsibility of the staff at the police station would increase manifold once the airport gets commissioned in near future. In view of the possible hurdles in future, Bhosale conceived the idea of computerisation of police station.
