Somendra Sharma, DNA: Investigations into the murder of diesel mafioso Sayyed Ali Madar alias Chand has revealed that Mohammad Ali and the underworld gangster Chhota Shakeel had hatched the entire murder conspiracy. The crime branch officials stated this on Monday.

Accordingly, the police has invoked the MCOCA against the accused. "During the probe, it was learnt that Mohammad Ali was in touch with Shakeel, and together they had hatched the criminal conspiracy. We have evidence to back this. Shakeel has also been shown as wanted accused in the case, and MCOCA has been invoked against all the ten accused, including Shakeel," said joint commissioner of police, crime, Himanshu Roy. So far the total number of arrests come to nine.

A few days ago, the crime branch officials had arrested one Shaikh Akhtar Allah Rakha from the city, and another Rashid Batla was also arrested from Bangalore on Sunday, for their alleged involvement in the case.

On September 15, Chand, owner of a private firm in Fort area, was walking towards a restaurant, when he was shot at on his head from a point blank range, he succumbed to the injuries the next day, police said. Six days after the killing, the crime branch arrested politician Mohammed Ali Abubakar Shaikh and his four aides from the city, while two sharp shooters were apprehended from Mughalsarai railway station in Uttar Pradesh.

Investigations revealed that Chand, who was allegedly involved in several cases of stealing marine diesel from the high seas, had asked his associate Samad Deshmukh alias Sailm to carry out the theft in 2008.

While committing the crime, Salim had been arrested by the Customs and put behind bars. Salim came out in July but Chand, who had promised him money for taking the entire blame of the theft on himself, reneged on his promise, police said. Salim wanted to avenge this and had approached Mohammed Ali.

Mohammed Ali and Chand were rivals, as both were involved in smuggling marine diesel. To settle scores and get rid of Chand, Mohammed Ali had arranged Rs3 lakh to execute the murder.
