Mumbai:
Fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar once again cemented his position in Karachi with the wedding of his younger brother Anees's daughter with the son of another underworld figure Salim Chiplun at the posh Park Star gymkhana in Karachi on Saturday evening.
Underworld sources based in Dubai informed DNA that the nikaah ceremony between 21-year-old Sabina and Sohail Salim Dalvi, who is two years elder to the bride, was held at the venue in Karachi.
Abu Dhabi-based Moin Dawood Kaskar, son of Dawood Ibrahim, flew Dawood's men from across the Gulf region for the wedding. Several representatives of a prominent city builder and developer accompanied Moin to Karachi to convey their wishes and congratulate the Dawood clan.
Several top-rung ISI officials and senior bureaucrats from Pakistani establishments attended the wedding amidst tight security and surveillance by local authorities.
Saturday's development further gives credence to the fact that the Dawood clan, settled in Karachi under ISI cover, has no immediate plans to settle in India. Though the Indian intelligence agencies and local police officials declined to officially comment on Saturday's marriage ceremony, they confirmed the ceremony being held in Karachi.
Salim Chiplun is the person who facilitated the meeting of two gutkha barons Jagdish Joshi and Rasiklal Dhariwal with Anees Ibrahim in Karachi in order to set up a large gutkha manufacturing plant in Pakistan.
He also managed to get gutkha manufacturing machines and equipment exported to Pakistan and supplied the manual expertise in the packing and printing of the pouches. The case is still pending in the Bombay high court. Chiplun is also involved in at least three cases of extortion with Mumbai police.
Despite repeated denials of Dawood's presence by Pakistan, authorities today admitted that he was indeed there.
