Mumbai doctor held for molesting 30-year-old patient

Mumbai: A doctor and practising surgeon was arrested on Saturday by Dindoshi police in Mumbai on charges of molestation. S J Qureshi, 34, who runs a private clinic in Khot Dungri area of Malad (East), allegedly molested a 30-year-old when she visited him for treatment for her back on Friday night.

Pinky, (name changed) a housewife and a resident of Khot Dungri area visited Qureshi, her family physician after she had a fall on Friday night. Pinky alleged that Qureshi had requested her to lie down on the patient's bed and asked her to remove her pants. Besides touching her inappropriately, Pinky alleged that Qureshi uttered obscenities. She quickly made her exit from the clinic and tried to contact her husband Ashwin Ojha, a 35-year-old small-time businessman, but his mobile phone was switched off.

She narrated all that had happened at the clinic when she met her husband later at night. Ojha visited Qureshi's clinic on Saturday morning and was allegedly assaulted with a glass pane by Qureshi and his cousin Abdul. Ojha, alleging that he sustained injuries on both hands while trying to defend himself, filed an FIR at Dindoshi police station. He was accompanied by other residents who lived around the clinic. The doctor was later arrested but his cousin is still absconding.

Hitesh Ojha, the alleged victim's brother-in-law, said, "Last night, my sister-in-law slipped on the stairs and went to Qureshi's clinic, but ran out of the clinic when he tried to molest her and came back home."

Senior police inspector, Dindoshi police station confirmed, "We have booked them under 354, 324, 326, 506 (2) and 34 of IPC. The investigation is on."
