Mumbai engineer's death: Murder or suicide?

Mumbai: A week after Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) engineer Nandkishor Gadekar was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his cabin in Kurla, his brother has alleged that Nandkishor was murdered.

The police had registered a case of accidental death after the junior engineer was found dead on March 27.

The deceased's brother Rakesh, a homoeopath, now says signs of strangulation were not seen on his brother's body.

Rakesh said he would file a case for a further probe into the death. "I will approach the CBI if need be," he added.

"There is a lot of filth within the BMC. There is a nexus between high-ranking officials and builders over illegal constructions in the ward that my brother was killed."

"I will not cremate my brother's body till I get justice," said Rakesh, adding he would file a petition in the High Court seeking a fresh probe.

The ward office had CCTV cameras installed. "I have not yet seen the footage as it is still in the BMC's possession and has not yet been handed over to the police," said investigating officer P S Rao Khomne, Sub-Inspector of Kurla police station.

However, Assistant Commissioner of BMC's L ward, who identified himself as Salvi said, "The police have seen the footage. Not much can be determined through the footage as the camera keeps losing focus."
