Mumbai:
For 15 years, the Railways have been trying to build an 18-km track between Kurla and Thane. The Rs166-crore project has been plagued by innumerable problems since its inception.
But in a major embarrassment, the Central Railway has wrongly aligned the new tracks between Kanjurmarg and Bhandup stations. The tracks had been laid and welded, electric masts put in place, overhead electric wires placed and signalling system completed when the railways realised the goof-up.
The tracks have been removed and the process of realigning has started. This will not only result in the loss of lakhs of rupees, but also need coordination from various departments.
