Mumbai: Firearms worth Rs 2 lakh seized, 4 arrested

Mumbai: Cracking down on illegal gun running in the city, the crime branch arrested four persons from different places and seized five imported weapons costing more than Rs 2 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, Wagle Estate crime branch senior police inspector Ramesh Bhurewar and sub inspector RT Jadhav from bomb detection squad trapped the persons from Mumbra and Thane. One person Santosh Jadhav, 34, resident of Markande Wadi in Mumbra was arrested from Koram Mall.

After getting information from him, the police trapped Shaji Nayar near Parsik Circle on October 22. Police seized imported weapons that include 2 pistols, 1 revolver and three rounds of ammunition. Additional police commissioner Dhananjay Kamlakar said that Jadhav is a civil contractor. "Shaji undertakes wiring jobs at apartments. Shaji stays in a posh flat from where four mobiles and some credit cards were seized," Kamlakar said.

In another case, police trapped an auto driver and another person in connection with illegal trafficking of revolvers. Auto driver Shekar Thakur, 28, is a native of Uttar Pradesh, while Mohmmad Khan, 26, works as a domestic help.
