Mumbai:
The mysterious murder of a 9-year-old-girl in Mumbai has brought people out on the streets in protest. What makes this case even more curious is that the girl's body was found on the terrace of a police colony. The post-mortem report is awaited, but the medical reports indicate she was abused before being murdered.
Protests took place in the central suburb of Kurla after the body of the 9-year-old girl was found on Sunday morning in a police housing colony.
The girl, allegedly raped and murdered, had gone missing from her home on Saturday.
"Her body was found on the terrace of a police building. What were the police doing? They were supposed to look for my daughter. Instead of that, were they sleeping?" asks victims mother, Savita Jaiswal.
This is the third case in the last 6 weeks involving a minor -- a reason why people in the area have now taken to the streets asking for action. The police say they are looking at all possibilities.
"We will be questioning everyone in the building, including policemen, since this building houses policemen," says Deputy Commissioner of Police Dilip Sawant.
While the police still hunt for the motive and culprits behind this murder, for the family it's an irreparable loss.
