Mumbai:
The Santa Cruz police on Saturday arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly killing his minor girlfriend and dumping her body at a ghat in Kasara. The accused suspected her of having an affair with someone.
The police have arrested Mohammed Arshad, a storekeeper with a private firm.
Police records claim that Arshad and the 16-year-old victim are residents of the same locality in Daulat Nagar. Sources said that two were in a relationship for last few months.
Officials said the problem between them started a month ago when Arshad saw the girl walking with one of her male friends. "He started suspecting her of two-timing him," said senior inspector M Chawdharie.
On October 20, Arshad, on the pretext of wanting to spend some good time, took the girl to a place in Kasara.
Officials said that at Kasara the topic cropped up. "In a fit of rage, Arshad strangled the girl to death," said deputy commissioner of police MM Prasanna.
