Mumbai man tied kids to the bed, tortured them
Mumbai: The Mumbai police on Wednesday arrested a 42-year-old man Saminullah Sheikh for allegedly torturing and keeping his children tied up inside their home.

The police broke into the house to find a 7-year-old boy and an eight-year-old girl bound to the bed with burn marks on their body.

"The neighbours heard the children crying miserably and found that Sheikh had locked them inside the house. They informed 1098, the Childline Helpline, and we reached the spot," said Suhas Naik from the Borivli Police.

An NGO, Committed Communities Development Trust also helped rescue the children.
"We found the children tied up in the house. They were very scared, hungry and had burn marks on their body," said Shyamal Maske, a member of the Trust.

Sheikh works for a private firm in Borivli and was married for the second time after the children's mother died last year.

"On inquiry we found that Sheikh had been beating up the children regularly. He used to come home drunk and beat them up. He also kept the children hungry. Sheikh's second wife lives in his village, so there was no one to help the kids," said Suhas Naik.

The children have been sent to a shelter home in Mankhurd. Sheikh was produced in Borivli metropolitan court and has been remanded to judicial custody.
