Mumbai realty dealer shot at, survives

Mumbai: Two unidentified men on a motorcycle opened fire on 46-year-old estate agent Rohit Chheda on Saturday morning. Chheda was shot at from point blank range near Deepak Hospital on Mira Road. He was admitted to Tunga Hospital and is out of danger.

According to eyewitnesses, Rohit, a resident of Jai Poonam Nagar, Mira Road, was walking back to his home after a visit to the salon, when the two unidentified men fired a bullet in his back. The assailants immediately fled the spot.

Rohit is the secretary of the society and had an altercation with a political leader over Dahi Handi festivities recently. Police suspect he was targeted in an act of revenge.

Rohit is a real estate agent by profession; the police are also trying to ascertain if there is any connection between some realty deals which he had struck in Mumbai and the shootout.

Senior police officials from Mira-Bhayander region including police Superintendent Vishwas Nangre-Patil, rushed to the spot immediately and started investigating the matter. "We are working on all angles and hope to arrest the culprits soon," said Deputy Police Superintendent Nitin Sambatwad.
