Mumbai: School bus hits signal, students safe

Mumbai: Around 68 students had a narrow escape when the school bus they were travelling in, hit a traffic signal in Panvel on Thursday evening. Police said that all the students were safe and there was no casualty. The school bus belonged to Apeejay School, Nerul while the students were from DAV Public School, Nerul. The students were taken to DAV New Panvel to attend a programme and the accident took place while the bus was coming back to Nerul at around 7.45 pm.

Another bus that came to the spot carried the children to their homes. Due to the accident, there was huge traffic jam on Sion-Panvel Highway. The traffic officials from Panvel unit reached the spot and cleared the traffic. "Prima facie, the accident happened due to failure of breaks and there were no causalities," an official from traffic unit said.

"Since there was no casualty, no case has been registered and only the incident was noted down. The bus has been sent for examination to the RTO. After we get the report, appropriate action will be taken against those responsible," an official from Panvel Police Station said.
