Thane district has constituted a team that will take charge if educational institutes face any crisis. The disaster management committee was formed in Thane solely for schools and colleges on Thursday.
It will be a part of Thane district disaster management cell at the collectorate and will concentrate on forming action plans for institutions.
According to the state's disaster management norms, it is necessary for each district to have a crisis management plan for educational institutes. According to section 32 of Disaster Management Act 2005, the responsibility of guiding schools and colleges in this regard is upon the district Disaster Management Cell.
Recently, a meeting was held between heads of schools and colleges, Thane Municipal Corporation's (TMC) chief fire officer, district social welfare officer, Thane district disaster management head Ashok Ghule and other officials. The committee was formed under the guidance of Thane district collector AL Jarhad.
The disaster management committee for educational institutes will formulate a general and central crisis management action plan. It will periodically spread awareness among people, interact with the heads of schools and colleges to update plans on regular basis. It will have to connect educational institutes with each other to manage any emergency.
It will also look into conducting programmes for creating awareness on the subject through essays, poster competitions and skits. The committee will also be responsible to hold mock drills and training for students and staff.
