Mumbai: A three-year-old boy Ayub, who fell into a gutter in Mumbai while playing on Sunday night, is still untraceable.
Civic authorities say they flushed out 57 chambers in the 3 kilometre drainage system. A team is also deployed to monitor the sewage out gates to see if his body is flushed out.
To add to the family's woes, Ayub's maternal grandfather, stressed about the child's welfare, passed away on Monday morning. Ayub's grandmother has been admitted to hospital.
Local residents are livid and say the gutter had been open for the last five months or so and the civic authorities did nothing despite many complaints.
"He was running and fell into the gutter. The police and firemen aren't doing anything. My child is gone. It's been 4-5 months since this gutter has been like this. A drunk and a thief have fallen into it earlier they saved both of them but no one is helping my child," said Ayub's mother.
