Mumbai: Mumbai University students reaching late for their exams owing to the ongoing motormen strike were today allowed to appear for their papers and were given the full stipulated three hours to complete it.

"We anticipated that there could be late arrivals of students for their exams and instructed all the 170 centres from Mumbai to Ratnagiri to allow extra time to students who arrived late," University controller of examinations Vilas Shinde told PTI.

Students in three centres arrived late by two hours and were given full three hours to write their exams, he said.

"The university conducted five major exams and 26 diploma exams today. Ten thousand students appeared for the exams," he said.

On Monday, the university conducted 40 examinations and because of the disruption of suburban rail services students walked in late in several centres, Shinde said adding that no
exams are scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday.
