Mumbai:
Wednesday night's inquiries into the case of the woman who was found dead near gate number five of the Sahar International Airport in Mumbai around 8.30 pm on Wednesday night indicated that she had slipped and did not commit suicide as previously believed.
Inquiries by the Sahar police revealed that the woman was sitting on the edge of the departure bridge and she had lost her balance and slipped. Police officials investigating the case said it looked like an accident.
The woman, believed to be in her late 20s, was wearing a salwar kameez and did not look like an international traveller, said a police official from the Sahar police. He said they had earlier thought she had committed suicide but inquiries revealed that she was seen sitting on the edge of the bridge and later fell off.
"If she wanted to commit suicide, she would not have been sitting there for some time before deciding to make the jump. While the suicide angle can't be completely ruled out, our inquiries have led us to believe that it was an accident," he said.
The woman was declared dead on admission at the Cooper hospital.
The police haven't been able to identify the woman yet as she was not carrying any ID. They have sent her pictures to all the police stations to find out whether any missing person's case had been registered in her name.
